Kinetic Simulation of Hot Metal Pretreatment: Desulfurization Using Powder Injection

A kinetic model for hot metal pretreatment process was developed. The co-injection of soluble magnesium and insoluble lime, both the transitory permanent contact reaction zones were considered in present model. That is, covers all general features desulfurization submerged powder injection, practiced at steel plants. based on effective equilibrium zone approach combination with FactSage thermodynamic databases. divided into a finite number zones, volumes each determined as function parameters physical descriptions reactions’ mechanisms. can be applied to wide range HM top slag chemistries, calculate compositional evolution during process. accuracy compared sampled plant data. current also utilized study potential further optimization existing plant.
